From the ship to the Old Town
Gruž port is roughly 3 km from Pile Gate. A private transfer takes 10–15 minutes door to door and waits for your group at the terminal exit.
Walk the walls early or late
The City Walls circuit takes 1.5–2 hours and there is very little shade. Adult tickets are €40 in 2026. Go in the first hour after opening or in the last two hours before closing.
What's worth your limited hours
With a short call, depth beats distance.
- Stradun and the back lanes above it
- Cable car to Mount Srđ for the panorama
- A swim at Banje or the Buža cliff bars
Getting back on time
Plan to be at the port 45 minutes before all-aboard. Taxi queues at Pile are longest between 14:00 and 16:00, so a pre-booked pickup is the safe option.

Is a tender or a berth used?
Most ships berth alongside at Gruž. Only a few smaller vessels tender; your ship's daily programme confirms it the evening before.
How much walking should I expect?
The Old Town is entirely on foot and full of steps. Comfortable shoes matter more than anything else you pack for the day.
Can you hold a driver for the whole call?
Yes — a half-day or full-day private hire keeps the same driver and vehicle with you, including stops at Srđ, Cavtat or the Konavle valley.
