Accessibility in Dubrovnik.
A medieval walled city on a hillside is never going to be easy — but a lot more of Dubrovnik is reachable than most guides admit.
Short answer
Stradun and Od Puča inside the walls are flat and step-free, and both Pile and Ploče gates have level or ramped access. The City Walls and the north-side lanes are not accessible. Lapad Bay promenade, Babin Kuk and Cavtat's waterfront are the easiest flat areas in the region.
Inside the walls
Step-free
Stradun (the main street), Od Puča and the Old Port waterfront are flat, though the stone is polished and slippery when wet.
Gates
Pile and Ploče have level or ramped routes in. The Buža gate is stepped and should be avoided.
Not accessible
The City Walls circuit, every north-side lane above Stradun, and most upper-floor apartments.
Where to stay for easy access
Lapad and Babin Kuk hotels are largely flat, purpose-built and have lifts, parking and level beach access.
Cavtat's waterfront is flat and charming, with a boat link into Dubrovnik.
Avoid booking inside the Old Town unless the host confirms a ground-floor entrance directly on Stradun or Od Puča.
Getting around
Libertas buses on the main lines are largely low-floor, but stops near Pile get very congested.
The cable car cabins and both stations are step-free, making Mount Srđ one of the most accessible viewpoints.
Copacabana beach on Babin Kuk has the most usable adapted access in the city.
Vehicles cannot reach Old Town doors. Plan the walking distance from the nearest legal drop-off before you arrive.
